In the City

Aubri stepping off the Subway called "Metro" in Chile.

In the background, notice the ENTEL Tower, Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones de Chile. Notice how it was built to resemble a cell phone. In the foreground is Aubri showing her evaluation of the waters of the Rio Mapocho - the river that crosses through all of Santiago. Compared to the Snake River that crosses Idaho Falls, the Rio Mapocho is a muddy river that up to recent years used to carry served waters. In the last year the Government has created a project to suspend the evacuation of served waters into the river and it's being cleaned in preparation for a navigable touristic attraction - or so are the plans underway right now.

The 18 of September is my mom's birthday, but it is also the Chilean Independence Day (like our 4th of July in the U.S.). The schools in Santiago closed that week to allow students to participate in the many patriotic activities throughout the city. This is one of the college students hangouts (very close - just two blocks - from the Law School Campus of the Universidad de Chile). Aubri just couldn't get over the amount of people that smoke in Chile, and it seems that the youth are no exception, although we are told the number of smokers is in the decline . . . let's hope.
